Today was one of those events that reminds me why I love architecture and design so much.

Such an inspiring afternoon at Design Within Reach Scottsdale listening to architect + builder James Trahan, AIA of 180 Degrees Design + Build share his approach to architecture, sustainability, preservation and craftsmanship.

One project especially stayed with me, a home where materials from the original structure were thoughtfully reclaimed and given a second life in the new design. Even the wood was reused and treated using the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique. The level of intention behind every detail was incredible.

Architecture that respects what already exists while creating something completely new is a different kind of luxury.

And there really couldn’t have been a better setting for the conversation than Design Within Reach, surrounded by pieces that have proven that exceptional design is timeless. Of course I had to spend a little time with the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Barcelona Chair while I was there. 🤍

Always a pleasure seeing Frank Aazami and meeting so many talented people from Arizona’s architecture, design and real estate community.
