🚨 ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP UPDATE 🇮🇹

A major development for applicants affected by the Minor Issue.

On August 10, 2026, Italy’s Ministry of the Interior directed Consulates to re-examine certain citizenship applications denied solely because of the Minor Issue that were submitted before March 28, 2025.

✨ No new citizenship application is required for a re-examination.

The Italian Consulate in Chicago has already published instructions, while additional guidance from other Consulates is expected.

💬 Was your citizenship application denied because of the Minor Issue? Could this update affect your case?

🍉☀️🇮🇹 BUON FERRAGOSTO! 🇮🇹☀️🍉

August 15 is one of Italy’s most beloved summer celebrations, but Ferragosto has a history that goes back more than 2,000 years!

What began as an ancient Roman summer festival eventually became intertwined with the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, creating a uniquely Italian tradition centered around faith, family, food, travel, and enjoying la dolce vita. ❤️

Today, Ferragosto is celebrated throughout Italy from seaside towns and mountain villages to family tables filled with good food and laughter. 🍝🌊☀️

And for those with Italian roots, traditions like Ferragosto are a beautiful reminder that Italian heritage is about more than a surname, it’s about the culture, history, and traditions passed down through generations. 🇮🇹

✨ If you could celebrate Ferragosto anywhere in Italy, where would you spend it and who would you bring with you? 🇮🇹👇

📍 Rome, Italy 🇮🇹 | Then & Now

🇮🇹✨

Some views of Rome never go out of style. ❤️

Our “Then” photo takes us back to the 1990s, looking down Via della Conciliazione toward the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica. Compare it with Rome today and you’ll notice plenty of changes—but that iconic dome remains just as breathtaking. 🇮🇹

✨ A few facts about this iconic view:

🇻🇦 St. Peter’s Basilica stands in Vatican City and is one of the most important landmarks in Rome.

🎨 The famous dome was designed by Michelangelo, who began work on it in 1546. After his death, Giacomo della Porta and Domenico Fontana completed it. The dome rises more than 133 meters (436 feet) from street level to the top of the cross.

🛣️ The grand avenue leading toward the basilica is Via della Conciliazione. Its construction transformed the area in the 1930s, and the avenue was completed for the 1950 Jubilee in 1950.

📸 Now: Rome today

❓Were you unable to get an Italian consulate appointment before March 28, 2025?

Your Italian citizenship journey may not be over. 🇮🇹 Recent court decisions have recognized that some applicants shouldn’t lose their opportunity simply because appointments weren’t available.

If you were on a waitlist, told there were no appointments, or have proof you tried to book before the law changed, you may still have legal options.

📍Travel Thursday: Ortigia, Sicily

Ortigia is the small island at the heart of Syracuse, connected to mainland Sicily by a few bridges and filled with centuries of history. Once the center of ancient Greek Syracuse, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful destinations in southern Italy.

Walk past the Temple of Apollo, admire the Baroque beauty of Piazza Duomo, visit the legendary Fountain of Arethusa, or explore Castello Maniace at the island’s southern tip (see photo 1). Every corner of Ortigia tells a story spanning thousands of years.🏛️

With its mix of Greek ruins, medieval streets, Baroque architecture, and breathtaking sea views, Ortigia is the perfect place to experience Sicily’s rich history and timeless charm.🌊

For many people with Sicilian ancestry, visiting Ortigia is more than checking off a travel destination—it’s an opportunity to walk the same streets your ancestors may have known and reconnect with your family’s heritage.

💬 Question of the day: Which Italian destination is at the top of your travel bucket list?

If you’re wondering whether you qualify for Italian citizenship by descent, ICAP is here to help you explore your eligibility and reconnect with your Italian heritage.
