When a divorce or family dispute comes up, most people assume court is just "how it's done." But litigation is only one path, and it's usually the most expensive and stressful one.
Litigation means a judge makes the final decisions for you. It can take months (sometimes years), rack up legal fees, and often leaves both sides feeling like they lost something.
Mediation works differently. Instead of fighting it out in a courtroom, both people sit down with a neutral mediator to work through the issues together, parenting time, finances, property, and reach an agreement that actually works for their situation.
It's usually faster, more affordable, and gives both parties more control over the outcome instead of leaving it in someone else's hands.
That doesn't mean litigation is never necessary. Some situations genuinely require court. But for a lot of families, mediation is worth exploring first.
