Meet Congressman Gil Cisneros last night at a Townhall meeting in La Verne. My question to the congressman was this, “ in 1997 Congress passed a capital gains tax exemption for an individual of $250,000, and married couple $500,000 when selling a primary residence. In 1997 the medium home value was $185,000. Today in our district Homes easily exceed $800,000 yet the capital gains tax exemption has not been changed. What specific actions are you taking to Congress to modernize or update the capital gains tax exemption when selling a primary residence in California?” The congressman’s response was favorable and I plan to send a follow up email to the congressman’s office to keep the question in-front of him as his constituents are looking for way to maximize the return on their investments, increase affordability and meet the California housing demand. It was a good meeting and I was happy to have meet Congressman Gil Cisneros.
