Is your spouse hiding their phone from you?

A screen that flips over a little too fast. A passcode that changed out of nowhere. Stepping outside to take calls they used to take right in front of you.

Each thing on its own feels easy to explain away. All of them together? That is a different feeling and you know the difference.

The worst thing you can do in that moment is go quiet about it.

Start with a conversation. A genuine one. Say something feels off and you need to talk about it. That is not an accusation. That is a marriage.
If that conversation goes nowhere or the answers still do not add up, that is when you stop sitting with the uncertainty alone. Financial records, communication patterns, changes in behavior. These things leave trails and there are people who know exactly how to read them.

Knowing the law does not make divorce any easier when it is your own.

In this episode of the Motion vs Emotions podcast Jaclyn gets honest about her personal experience with divorce. What it actually felt like. The moments she just needed someone to listen. The parts that had nothing to do with legal strategy and everything to do with being human.

It is a conversation worth hearing!

Walking through Venice, we almost missed it.

A small sign. Studi Legali. Avv. Law firms. Attorneys.

Even here, thousands of miles from home, the law shows up!

And then we heard something that really stuck with us.

During times of war and economic collapse in this region, lawyers were some of the only professionals who kept getting paid. Not doctors. Not most others.

Lawyers.

Think about that!

Even when everything around people was falling apart, they were still showing up. Handling property. Custody. Inheritance. Contracts. The things that don’t stop mattering when life gets hard. If anything, they matter more.

The law doesn’t make a scene about it. It doesn’t need to.

It just keeps going.

And honestly, that’s the point!

Turns out Venice isn’t just known as the city of love… it’s also a bit of a hotspot for divorce in Italy 👀

Goes to show… even the most romantic places don’t guarantee a lasting relationship.

So here’s the arguement that if you are unemployed and receiving child support, that money is for the child. Not nails. Not salon visits. Not personal expenses. The child.

We agree!

Here is the thing about child support that a lot of people misunderstand.

It is calculated based on the needs of the child. Housing, food, clothing, school supplies, medical expenses. That is what it is designed to cover.

Now that does not mean every single dollar has to be accounted for with a receipt. Courts do not work that way.

But the spirit of child support is the child’s wellbeing. Not the receiving parent’s lifestyle.

If you are not working and that support is coming in, the expectation is that it goes toward the child it was ordered for.

That is not a controversial take. That is just what the law intends.

Venice this time!

Every city we visit, we end up seeing it through the lens of what we do and Venice is such an interesting one. It’s known as one of the most romantic places in the world, yet it also has one of the higher divorce rates in Italy. That surprises people, but honestly, it doesn’t surprise us at all!

Because that gap between perception and reality? We see it every single day.

Family law looks different everywhere. Different laws, different courts, different approaches. But the reasons people get there? Those stay the same.

Money. Communication. Trust. Parenting. Growing in different directions.

The more we travel, the more that gets reinforced. New city, new culture, new language and still the same human patterns showing up again and again.

And that’s exactly why how it’s handled matters so much! It matters everywhere!

The fastest divorce Jaclyn ever handled came down to a few things.

Both people were relatively aligned. The paperwork was already in order. And instead of taking it to court they chose mediation.
That combination changes the whole timeline.

But beyond the speed, mediation just makes sense. You have a professional guiding the process so nothing important gets missed. Everything gets properly documented. And the agreement you walk away with is actually built around your specific situation, your kids, your finances, your life. Not a standard court order that was never designed with you in mind.

Going straight to court hands control over to a process that moves slowly and does not know your family.

Mediation is right in the middle. And for a lot of people it is the best decision they make in the whole process.

Here’s a fun fact about Venice… ⚖️

During crucial times, even in periods of conflict, lawyers were among the few who continued to get paid, not doctors, not most other professions… just lawyers.

It makes you pause a little… how even in the most unstable moments, societies still hold onto rules, structure, and who gets to keep things running.

Met these two in Venice and instantly loved them! Locals, not tourists, and fully embracing Carnival in the best way. Masks, headpieces, embroidered gloves, every detail.

Married for decades and still choosing to make life fun together. Every year they pick something new and go all in. This year was Carnival and you could tell they were having the best time.

They had that effortless connection. Laughing, finishing each other’s thoughts, completely at ease.

We asked their secret.
They looked at each other and smiled.
“We just kept showing up.”

That’s it! That’s the magic!

This woman is speaking in extremes.

The take going around is basically this. Do not judge men for cheating because women come with a past too. Previous relationships, children, dating profiles, all of it being used as some kind of justification.

These are two completely different conversations. A woman’s past has nothing to do with a man’s choice to break a commitment he made. One does not cancel out the other. One does not explain the other. They are not even in the same category.

Mixing up someone’s history with someone’s choices is not a defense. It is a distraction.
