⚖️ When Keith Mitnik is in the courtroom, you pay attention.

Keith is THE legendary trial attorney at Morgan & Morgan, and the man behind some extraordinary jury verdicts.

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to watch Keith, Michael Hanna, and Samantha Teal in action in federal court in Bloomer v. The Word Network Operating Company.

And the best part? It happened right here in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

Theres a big difference between reading about greatness and watching it unfold right in front of you. Some lawyers are worth studying. Others are worth watching.

Keith Mitnik is both.

After decades of practicing law, I still get excited watching exceptional attorneys do what they do best.

You remembered the house. You named your beneficiaries. But what about everything you didn’t specifically mention?

Think of it as your will’s catch-all: it directs what happens to the “rest and remainder” of your estate so the assets you didn’t specifically list can still be distributed according to your plan.

How do you find out who actually owns a property?

Checking the property tax records is a good start—but the person listed as the taxpayer may not be the actual property owner.

To investigate ownership, check the Register of Deeds and review the recorded deeds in the chain of title. Those records can help you determine how ownership of the property was transferred and who currently holds title.

Knowing the difference between tax records and deed records can save you from a very common property-search mistake.

Handwritten wills can get messy fast.

Missing details, vague language, and unclear instructions can leave families arguing over what you actually meant—and potentially fighting it out in court.

A holographic will may be valid in some states, but valid doesn’t always mean well-planned.

Being the oldest child doesn’t make you the boss of probate. 👑
Birth order generally doesn’t give you greater inheritance rights—or automatically put you first in line to control the estate.
When siblings are in the same legal class, oldest doesn’t mean priority.

The best part of conferences is rarely the on-stage speakers.

It’s the "hallway people".

You make these weird, quirky, fun friendships with people you may see only a few times a year. Different cities. Different lives.

Then you show up, spot each other across the room, and you pick up where you left off, tell the stories, catch up on life, and laugh. A lot.

I love it.

Conference friends are real friends. They just come with name badges.
