Thanks for having me on Monday to celebrate Nathan's birthday and have a great discussion!
Our guest speaker at Salem Rotary October 3rd, 2022 was Michele Kelsaw, Attorney at Law, MBA and owner of MK Legal Planning. Her question was, when was the last time you reviewed your Will or Family Trust? Most of us have genuine concerns about what will happen to our estate if either spouse becomes disabled or when both may die. Mistake #1 is planning for death only. If either or both become disabled how will your estate be able to care for you? Mistake #2 is without proper planning your estate will end up in Probate Court perhaps for a year or more with no one having access to any of your assets. Mistake #3 Joint Ownership of an estate shouldn’t be viewed as a panacea for every estate planning concern. Fact is most folks work a lifetime to create their fortune, large or small and we would like for it to be distributed according to our wishes. Without proper legal counsel and planning this is unlikely to happen. MK Legal Planning is available for counsel and can be contacted at 573-578-2848 or [email protected] Thanks to Rotarian Nathan Kelsaw for hosting our speaker today.

What's the best way to leave your home to your kids?!?!?
The most popular planning tool we use to help clients pass their home on to their kids is called a trust.
By using a trust, we can avoid court and conflict! This means we save thousands of $$$$, have no delay, and prevent fighting. 💰
We can ensure that your home is maintained, sold, or managed the way you want to care for your kids after you are gone or if you become incapacitated. All of this happens pursuant to your instructions in the trust. Side note: a trust is the only way for us to manage property for children under the age of 18 outside of court.
