The City of Hartford works on so many exciting projects but this one feels especially meaningful to me. Growing up, I spent so much time playing and swimming in this park, so being able to contribute to its improvements has had a profound impact on me both professionally and personally. I’m incredibly grateful to all of the stakeholders, community members, and employees who continue pushing to make the City of Hartford and its parks better places for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for sharing this special ribbon-cutting ceremony with me.

❄️ Frigid Tips for Homeowners ❄️

New England winters don’t play around. When temperatures plunge, a little preparation can protect your home and keep your family safe and comfortable:
1. Protect your pipes
Let faucets drip during extreme cold, open sink cabinets, and insulate exposed pipes—especially in basements, attics, and garages common in New England homes.
2. Keep the heat consistent
Avoid drastic thermostat setbacks, even overnight or when you’re away. Maintaining steady heat helps prevent frozen pipes and costly repairs.
3. Seal out the cold
Check windows and doors for drafts. Use weatherstripping, caulk, or draft stoppers to keep warm air in and heating bills down.
4. Prepare for winter power outages
Nor’easters and ice storms can knock out power. Stock up on blankets, flashlights, batteries, and make sure generators or alternative heat sources are used safely and properly ventilated.
5. Clear snow and ice responsibly
Shovel walkways, driveways, and around vents promptly. Keep furnace and dryer vents clear to prevent carbon monoxide buildup, and use ice melt carefully to protect concrete.

Staying ahead of the cold can save you stress, money, and damage—classic New England winter wisdom! 🏠❄️
