Maryland's FAMLI program is moving forward, and January 1, 2027, is the date Maryland employers need to be ready for.
Our Employment and Labor Law team has published a new alert with a step-by-step breakdown of what employers should do before the end of 2026: register with the FAMLI Division, update payroll and HR systems, review leave policies to account for how FAMLI interacts with FMLA and PTO, and prepare employee notices. Employers considering a private plan also have an early deadline to flag: the Declaration of Intent window to pursue an Equivalent Private Insurance Plan opens September 1 and closes November 15, 2026.
The full alert includes direct links to DOL resources and everything you need to start building your implementation plan now.
