The Plaza Theatre closes its Broadway Cinema series with Kinky Boots The Musical Sunday. Food Truck Fridays keeps rolling in Downtown Indio every week, 5 to 10pm, with live entertainment and a rotating vendor lineup.

That is a wrap on August. September brings cooler evenings and an even busier calendar, stay tuned.

704 new listings hit the market in July, down 10.09% from 783 a year ago. Fewer new homes coming up for sale is adding to the tighter inventory buyers are facing this summer.

Palm Springs Art Museum has six exhibitions running right now, from Lake Verea's DarkRooms and Other Games to A Q***r Arcana and Alternative Palm Springs: Other Desert Architectures, a look at the region's design history. The Backstreet Art District's Monthly Art Walk runs the first Wednesday of every month, 5 to 7pm, with galleries open across the district.

The art scene here runs deeper than most people expect walking in. It is one more reason this Valley keeps earning second looks from buyers who thought they knew what the desert had to offer.

There were 2,622 homes for sale across the Coachella Valley in July, down 22.03% from 3,363 a year ago. Tighter inventory means less competition for sellers and fewer options for buyers who want to compare before they commit.

Ted Robinson, golf's self-proclaimed King of Waterscapes, called his own design at Chaparral Country Club the Little Monster, and thirteen lakes woven through the par-60 executive course explain why. It is a shorter, more playable round than most Valley clubs, which is exactly the draw for residents who want golf as a daily habit rather than an all-day commitment. Homes here also come in well below many neighboring clubs, without giving up the lake views.

Buyers paid an average of $376 per square foot in July, up 4.16% from $361 a year ago. Per square foot values keep trending higher across the Valley, even as the overall pace of sales slows.

The average Coachella Valley listing spent 80 days on market in July, down slightly from 82 days a year ago. Well priced homes in desirable areas are still finding buyers at a steady pace.

The Plaza Theatre hosts Coachella Valley Classical Voices live on stage Sunday, and its Summer Sing-Along series continues with The Wizard of Oz. Palm Springs Art Museum's current shows, including A Q***r Arcana and Alternative Palm Springs, are worth the visit any day this month.

A full calendar in the slow season is exactly the kind of thing that keeps people here longer than they planned.

Toscana Country Club brings a genuinely different concept to Indian Wells, built around Tuscan architecture and anchored by Il Forno Trattoria and Wine Cellar instead of a standard clubhouse grill. Members play 36 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature golf, then unwind at Spa Bella Vita or the Charlie Pasarell Tennis Center, all behind 24-hour guarded gates. It is the newest club community in Indian Wells, and it does not feel like anywhere else in the Valley.

TEDxRanchoMirage returns for its second year on August 25th at the Rancho Mirage Library & Observatory. This year's theme, Under the Same Sky, brings local speakers together for an evening of short talks on science, business, and community.

Events like this are a good reminder that this Valley is not just a place people retire to. It is a place people build, invest, and connect, year round.
