Youth Health Advocate Program

Youth Health Advocate Program YHAP aims to bring awareness about HIV/AIDS and other STIs, end the stigma, & provide resources.

Youth Health Advocates are youth in the community who have taken the time to educate others on HIV/AIDS related information under the YHAP grant. (Youth Health Advocate Program) This includes STD/HIV testing, transmission, prevention, and care. Advocates work closely with an HIV Mobile Testing unit to ensure everyone in Oswego County has access to testing and provide outreach county wide.

At AIDSWatch 2026, DeOnyae-Dior Valentina reminded us that legislative decisions aren't abstract β€” they directly impact our ability to access care, remain housed, feel safe, and plan for the future.

Valentina participated as a panelist, facilitated a workshop on Trans Futures, and brought community voices directly to congressional offices.

🎀 Her reflection says it all: "Advocacy is most effective when lived experience, community expertise, and policy strategy work together."
