We had the pleasure of hosting Professor Lori Simonsen from the University of Nebraska at Omaha today! She shared her perspective on how accounting is evolving with new trends and technology, how the NBPA is keeping the profession adaptable, and how UNO’s Internship Program benefits both students and firms. Lots of great takeaways for the future of the industry!

We recognize their expertise, commitment, and the value they bring to our clients and our firm. These promotions highlight not just individual achievement, but the strength of our entire team. Congratulations to all!

Brandon Blum has been promoted to Senior Associate at Hancock/Dana. Brandon has developed strong technical knowledge in preparing tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and S-corporations. In addition to his tax work, he has contributed to the firm's System and Organization Controls (SOC) attestation services and serves on the firm's tax training committee.

Adam Parette has been promoted to Senior Associate at Hancock/Dana. Adam has gained experience in the audit department performing compilation, review, and audit engagements, along with preparing individual and business tax returns. Parette has also been a part of the firm's new Core Value Initiative.

Tilden Bardsley has been promoted to Supervisory Senior at Hancock/Dana. Tilden works closely with individuals, S-corporations, and partnerships, offering strategic tax planning, return preparation, and practical guidance on any issue. Beyond client service, Tilden has been involved in our Core Value Initiative, a coach to emerging professionals, and a liaison to the Entrepreneurs Organization, helping bridge our firm's expertise with the broader business community.

Conner Hardy has been promoted to Supervisory Senior at Hancock/Dana. Conner has expertise in handling individual, partnership, and S-corporation tax returns. In his new role, Conner will continue to prepare complex tax returns while taking on additional responsibilities in reviewing team members' work, providing guidance, and assisting with training and development.

Amy Reynolds has been promoted to Supervisory Senior at Hancock/Dana. Amy has leveraged her diverse background in accounting and compliance roles across public accounting, private, and not-for-profit sectors to deliver exceptional service to our clients in individual and business tax returns, as well as accounting and tax planning.

Important News for Nebraska Businesses

Starting October 1, 2025, the Nebraska Healthy Families and Workplace Act will bring transformative changes to employee sick leave policies. This groundbreaking legislation ensures that all businesses with 11 or more employees provide paid sick leave.

Key Highlights:
· Paid Sick Leave: Employees will accrue paid sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, with small businesses providing up to 40 hours per year and larger businesses up to 56 hours.
· Eligibility for All: Full-time, part-time, and temporary employees working at least 80 hours a year are eligible.
· Carryover Benefits: Unused sick leave can be carried over to the next year. The company will be responsible for tracking this carryover.
· Employer Responsibilities: Written notice must be provided to employees by September 15, 2025, and prominently displayed in the workplace. Click here to download and print the official notice.

· Review Current Policies: Evaluate existing sick leave or paid time off (PTO) policies to ensure alignment with the new requirements.
· Update Employee Handbook: Make necessary updates and communicate changes to staff.

· Train Management: Ensure HR staff and management are aware of the new requirements and prepared to implement them.
