A new law taking effect Jan. 1, 2026, will change how felony sentences are structured in Oklahoma. ⚖️

The Oklahoma Sentencing Modernization Act creates categories with sentencing ranges and minimum time served for felony crimes, aiming to make punishment more consistent statewide — so similar crimes carry similar consequences, no matter the county.

Lawmakers say the changes are about clarity and consistency, not increasing sentences.
