Attorneys, judges and litigants need to understand the difference between verbatim court reporter transcripts and transcripts prepared and signed off by a person who was never present, or worse, a voice recognition/AI program that has no authentication by anyone that was present at the proceeding. Our current rules do not address the integrity issues with these third-party produced transcripts. FCRA is looking at this issue, but consumer beware!

Holly Reed, long-time Spanish interpreter for Ocala, passed away earlier this month. I'll never forget the first time she walked into the office. I'm looking for a swarthy Spaniard - and in bounces this freckle-faced redhead! I was, like, how in the world can this be - and then found out she'd grown up in Puerto Rico. But from the early 90's when I arrived in Ocala, I didn't know another Spanish interpreter existed for about ten years. Seriously. Didn't see anybody but her! She covered all of our felonies here, in depos and the courtroom. You could count on Holly to keep what could be upsetting situations calm and professional.

She is survived by her son, Sean, siblings Kirk and Linda, and their families, and our hearts go out to them.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in memory of Holly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause for which Holly had been an advocate in life.
