VAWA: You May Have an Immigration Option
If you are being abused by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or child, you may have the right to seek immigration protection through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
VAWA may allow certain victims of:
Physical abuse
Emotional or psychological abuse
Threats, intimidation, or controlling behavior
Other forms of extreme cruelty
to apply for immigration benefits without the abuser’s knowledge or participation.
You may be eligible even if you are no longer living with the abuser or are separated, depending on your circumstances.
Every case is different. Speaking with an experienced immigration attorney can help you understand whether VAWA may be an option for you.
You deserve to know your rights and understand your options.
