We’re proud to announce that Alexis L. Cirel, Co-Founder of the The Fertility Law Group of Warshaw Burstein, LLP and partner in our Matrimonial and Family Law Group, has been admitted the State Bar of Michigan! This marks a key expansion of our Fertility Law Group practice into the state of Michigan at a critical time, with the state’s new Assisted Reproduction and Surrogacy Parentage Act poised to take effect on April 1, 2025.

Alexis attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate and the University of Michigan Law School, maintaining deep roots with the state. She has been at the forefront of New York’s implementation of its new surrogacy legislation and is an established thought leader and practitioner in the fertility space, making her uniquely positioned to support Michigan residents build and secure their families under the new law.

We’re proud to share that Alexis Cirel, a founding partner and chair of Warshaw Burstein’s Fertility Law Group, has been published in the Fertility and Sterility Journal of Medicine. Coauthored with Dr. Brian Levine of CCRM Fertility and others, the article, “Should physicians be facilitating gestational carrier arrangements in the absence of medical indication?”, explores the complex and evolving topic of patient autonomy in surrogacy arrangements beyond medical necessity.

As Alexis notes, “The topic is a hot and controversial one… it calls upon professionals to consider a unique confluence of bioethical, medical, legal, and social issues.”
