Today's edition of chronicles of a mobile notary:

I was greeted by the husband with an ax in hand chopping wood. We walked into the home the wife joined at the table.

We shared small talk while signing papers that are important to their future.

The husband immediately left the house after the last signature.

When I stepped into the garage he handed me this wooden bowl he made as a gift of appreciation.

I think it's a perfect way to display my cards & pens in the office. What an honor to be gifted a work of art. I truly have the best clients!

I typically decline the offer of beverages. I’m never in the home long and don’t want to be a bother. However, at this signing, something told me to accept the Coca-Cola that was offered.

The son kindly twisted the cap and handed it to me. My first sip tasted like gold.

The daughter then shared that Coca-Cola was their mom’s favorite—though she can no longer drink them, as she is nearing her final days.

A quiet nod of approval was exchanged around the table as I savored my client’s favorite beverage. Taking the beverage somehow felt like honoring my client.

Being invited into a family’s most intimate final moments is truly an honor. I take deep pride in ensuring estate planning documents are executed properly, while making sure clients are comfortable and treated with the utmost respect.
