Since 2021 our billing manager, Collin La Fleur, has ran the Riverwest-based non-profit Goodest Girl Salsa Co. As a "pass-through" charity, they sell locally made salsa to raise money for other Milwaukee based non-profits. So far, GGSC has been able to donate over $3,800 to organizations like Pathfinders, MADACC, We Got This, and others over the years.

This last weekend, GGSC did their first active charitable event! Partnering with We Got This Milwaukee, Collin taught a group of kids at their 9th & Ring garden how to make pico de gallo using tomatoes from their garden they harvested that morning. The kids learned some knife handling skills, got to make their own personal mix of salsa to bring home, and also got a bag of chips!

Happy National Senior Citizens Day! Did you know that former U.S. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed National Senior Citizens Day in 1988?

The day honors the achievements, wisdom, and lifelong contributions of older adults to their families and communities.

In 2019, La Fleur Law opened its second of three Wisconsin office locations when the firm established a presence in Waukesha County - located approximately 25 miles from Milwaukee and 60 miles from Madison.

Is a military pension considered marital property in a divorce?

A favorable La Fleur Law appeal in a Wisconsin divorce case resulted in a military pension being treated as marital property subject to division, not simply as income of the spouse receiving the pension.

Founder and owner Catherine La Fleur handled the appeal in Kelly v. Dorschner, No. 24AP2069, where the Court of Appeals District IV reversed and remanded the divorce judgment after concluding that the circuit court erroneously treated a military pension as income, rather than as marital property subject to division.

Divorce cases require careful attention to detail. This appeals court decision is significant because it reinforces an important principle: major financial decisions in a divorce must be supported by the facts in the record and must properly apply law.

La Fleur Law welcomes recent Marquette University Law School graduates Mikayla Collins and Haley Haddad as our new attorneys! Both previously served as law clerks with La Fleur Law.

Mikayla served as editor-in-chief of the Marquette Intellectual Property & Innovation Law Review. She was a merit scholarship recipient, participated in moot court and student leadership activities, and was recognized for her pro bono service while in law school. She earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University - Kelley School of Business.

While in law school, Haley received litigation awards, pro bono honors, competed in moot court competitions, and held leadership and membership roles with First Generation Professionals, Moot Court Association, and Association for Women Lawyers. Haley earned her undergraduate degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University Bloomington.
