A federal watchdog report released this week found that many U.S. nursing homes are creating false schizophrenia diagnoses to conceal their use of powerful antipsychotic drugs on dementia patients. According to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, these drugs are being used as chemical restraints to manage residents' behavior for the benefit of staff, not for the medical benefit of patients.
The FDA has warned that these drugs increase the risk of falls, strokes, and death in elderly patients with dementia. In some cases documented by investigators, residents were medicated for entirely harmless behaviors.
If you suspect a loved one in a Wisconsin nursing home has been improperly medicated or mistreated, Jacobs Injury Law can help you understand your legal options. Call (414) 306-8999 for a free consultation. Read the full article: https://ow.ly/8w9K50YxJAc
