During the second week of January, I fulfilled a bucket-list opportunity to attend the esteemed 58th Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning in Orlando. In the estate planning world, this is our “Super Bowl” to learn from the presentations of the top law and tax experts in the field. I was grateful to attend in good company with three Midland CPAs who made the trip. Four and a half days of all-day lectures and 60 + pages of handwritten notes later, Harry Potter World may have been indulged in and Hufflepuff robes purchased.

Thank you to Guy Ellis for solo parenting during the week to make another dream come true! Another heartfelt “thank you” to Beth Hill for putting our firm in a fruitful position where dreams like this are becoming our reality.

It’s an invigorating way to launch our 3rd year for Ellis & Hill Law, PLLC and use the knowledge gained to better serve our clients. We’ve come a long way from “2 overworked lawyer moms meet in a Midland bar and start a firm…” -Whitney

Guy Ellis (Whitney’s husband) and Matt Moore (Beth’s husband) are good sports in representing the firm today. Thank you to the Serve Midland leadership and dedicated volunteers for making this fun event happen to better Midland. Whitney and Beth need a couple more tennis lessons before we show our game face (hopefully next year).

On Friday, February 24, 2023, Ellis & Hill Law, PLLC was proud to sponsor and attend Texas Tech Law’s Estate Planning and Community Property Law Journal’s ("EPJ") Annual Legal Conference. We were all impressed by the EPJ student writers, presenters, and hosts of this educational event! It was also a treat to see Professor Gerry Beyer and Margaret Beyer. The Beyers have always given mentorship, support, and encouragement to these EPJ law students (and former law students).
