Have you prepaid for funeral arrangements, or are you considering it?

Connecticut has enacted new laws that provide stronger protections for consumers who purchase prepaid funeral contracts. These updates are designed to increase transparency, safeguard your funds, and give families greater peace of mind.

The new law includes:
✔️ Standardized contracts
✔️ Clearer consumer disclosures
✔️ Stronger financial protections
✔️ New safeguards if a funeral home closes

If preplanning is part of your estate plan, these changes are worth understanding.

A mission worth following and a story worth remembering. 💙

Paulie Veneto continues to honor the flight crews who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by pushing an airline beverage cart mile after mile in their memory.

Paulie calls these crew members the “first, first responders,” recognizing the courage they showed aboard the planes that morning. His dedication to making sure their stories and sacrifices are never forgotten is incredibly moving.

We even had the pleasure of meeting Paulie when one of his previous journeys brought him through Middletown and right past our office.

Keep pushing, Paulie. 💙

Update: Paulie is expected to arrive at the south green on Main Street in Middletown between 10 and 10:30 this Saturday morning. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!

Next Saturday, August 29, Paulie's Push will be coming through Middletown. We will be there, playing to support the cause and remember those lost on 9/11. We hope that you will join us.

Paulie is a retired United Airines Flight Attendant who pushes an airline beverage cart along routes similar to those followed by the planes lost on that dark day. This is the 25th year that he is making this effort.

We do not yet have the exact time and location where Middletown will Pwelcome Paulie, but right now we’re planning for early afternoon on August 29. If you consider what the man is doing, a little uncertainty a week ahead of time is understandable. We will know closer to next Saturday afternoon.

Please make plans to join us in support of Paulie’s mission. Follow the Paulie’s Push page. Please share this post to help let everyone know Paulie is coming so there is a huge turnout to welcome him. Follow our page, and we’ll let you know as soon as we’re told where you should be (and when) to welcome a noble man into our community.

💙 Today is National Senior Citizens Day!

Today, we celebrate the older adults who enrich our families and communities with their experiences, wisdom, and contributions.

It is also a good opportunity to think about the future. For older adults and their families, planning ahead can help protect assets, prepare for long-term care needs, and provide greater peace of mind.

One planning option you may have heard about is an irrevocable trust. Is it the right choice for you or someone you love?

Think estate planning is only for married couples or parents? Think again.

If you're single, having an estate plan is just as important. Without one, Connecticut law decides who will manage your finances if you're incapacitated, make healthcare decisions on your behalf, and inherit your assets when you pass away.

Whether you're just starting your career, nearing retirement, or anywhere in between, having the right legal documents in place gives you control over your future.

What if aging independently did not have to mean aging alone?

This story highlights an interesting approach to aging, with women creating their own communities centered around independence, connection, and mutual support.

As we help families plan for the future, conversations about aging often go far beyond finances and legal documents. Where you want to live, who you want around you, and what kind of support you may need are all important pieces of the bigger picture.

It's encouraging to see people exploring new ways to build community while maintaining independence as they age.

An interesting read and plenty of food for thought. 💙

The women of New Ground Cohousing and The Bird's Nest got tired of asking what their options were for aging — and built their own.

26 women in North London share a garden, a community, and full independence in their own homes. In rural Texas, a "sisterhood" of tiny homes offers the same thing for $450 a plot.
Both started the same way: a room full of women asking, "what if we did this ourselves?"
Swipe through the story of two communities, an ocean apart, proving that the demand for safe, affordable, women-centered housing isn't going anywhere — it's just waiting for someone to build it.

What would happen if you became incapacitated tomorrow?

It's a difficult question, but one every adult should consider.

Without a Financial Power of Attorney or Advance Healthcare Directive, your loved ones may not have the legal authority to manage your finances or make medical decisions on your behalf. In many cases, they may need to go to court to obtain that authority.

Planning ahead can help protect your wishes, reduce stress for your family, and avoid unnecessary delays during an already difficult time.

Who would make important financial or medical decisions for you if you couldn't?

Many people assume their spouse or adult children can automatically step in, but that's not always the case. Without the proper legal documents, your loved ones may have to go through a costly and time-consuming court process to gain the authority to help.

A Financial Power of Attorney and an Advance Healthcare Directive give someone you trust the legal ability to act on your behalf if you become unable to make decisions yourself.

Learn why these documents are an essential part of every estate plan.
