Koch, Garg, Walker and Smart is hiring associates.
The ideal candidate has several years of experience in criminal law, is approved to accept Connecticut assigned counsel cases in Part A and is on the CJA panel.
We will, however, consider attorneys with less or more experience.
Candidates must have a passion for criminal defense and the ability to treat each client as a human who is worthy of our greatest efforts, regardless of their charges or convictions. We seek people who are personally creative and skeptical of authority.
Associates will be working largely independently on their own cases, in the trial courts, appellate courts, and habeas courts of Connecticut, at the state and federal level. Associates will also be assigned discrete research and writing assignments, and will be asked to stand in at court dates when other attorneys are unavailable.
A unique facet of this role is that KGWS is seeking to expand into the realm of international criminal law. Starting about September of 2027, we intend to establish a small branch office at The Hague in The Netherlands. Associates will at first take a supportive role by working on our Connecticut cases. However, once our international practice is established, associates will have the opportunity to work on them, at least remotely, and possibly in person for trials in The Hague.
Candidates who are excited by this prospect will be the right fit for the job.
The position is full time with a competitive salary and benefits. It will be a hybrid of remote and office work in Middletown or Stamford.
