After each of us did our Ottawa pro races on Thursday, and I figured why not crush a mixed doubles on Saturday just in case our bodies weren’t abused enough. Well it was a PR for me as this beast dragged me around the track and carried me…loved competing with my fellow first responder from north of the border. Despite the sticky sled and congested track we did pretty well all things considered and it being competitive age group (we would have been 2nd just one AG up, this round we came in 13th).

Good tune up for June. 💪🏼.

Mission f’ing accomplished!

Despite falling well short of our projected finishing time, and I pulled off the win in Ottawa and punched our ticket to Stockholm for Championships. (I had to A.I. Neil into first pic b/c he couldn’t stay the extra day for the podium ceremony 🤣).

Correctable strategy errors, a 15-second penalty and a congested 4-lap track collectively slowed us down…so still work to do. Back to the lab with and for a few weeks (after “some” rest).

As always, big shout out to and for continuing to duct tape me together…between my 2 hamstring tears, C5/C6 impingement, knee tendinitis and golfer’s elbow, it’s a miracle I’ve made it this far 🩼. LFG!

Mission F’ing Accomplished. Despite posting a bit slower than Phoenix, and I pulled out the Pro Doubles (50-55 AG) win in Ottawa and qualified for World Championships (Neil couldn’t stay for podium ceremony so I had to AI him into the first pic 🤣).

Fitness felt good, but we had some strategy miscues, a 15-sec penalty and the 4-lap track was contested. Still got work to do, so back to the lab for a few weeks with and (after a couple days off).

As always, big shout outs to & for duct-taping this 50-yr-old together. Between my 2 hamstring tears, my C5/C6 impingement, knee tendinitis and golfer’s elbow…it’s a quasi-miracle that I’m still pulling this off.

So Sunday’s adventure warranted its own post:

When .52 agreed to do this with me, with no hesitation I might add, I don’t think either one of us knew how hard this was going to be, especially if we wanted to do it in under 2 hours. But the real surprise was the outpouring of loud, vocal positivity and support, not only from the spectators, but from our fellow athletes. The love we got from the other teams on the course was relentless and kept us going despite borderline heat exhaustion and dehydration. Huge community builder.

I was lucky enough to meet firefighter Darius Avant last year when he was an instructor during my EMT training at …and despite the fact I am exactly twice his age, learning from him, and others has kept me perpetually motivated in my sidequest as a first responder. I’m glad we have all remained friends and I look forward to possibly working closer together in the near future.

And for any haters out there…yes we kept the liners in, so it was hot AF.

Lastly, for anyone out there still reading this, next time you see our firefighters in the supermarket or grabbing lunch, dap them up and thank them. I’ve done enough shifts to know how hard the gig is, so a little love goes a long way.

EPIC WEEKEND RECAP, mission accomplished…2 flags.

Day 1: Mixed Relay…when I named our group chat “Podium or Bust” I meant it. All stars brought it home with a 2nd Place finish. Let’s go win in Tampa now!

Day 2: Men’s Pro Doubles with … 1st place in 55-59 age group but humble brag, we posted such a good time that would have won 45-49.

Day 3: I will say with no reservation, that running an open doubles IN FULL FIREFIGHTER BUNKER GEAR is the hardest physical thing I have ever done. Big shout out to .52 for absolutely crushing it. And yes, the liners were in there IYKYK.

Could not have made it through all this and achieved what we did without the teams at ( ) and … nor could this old body survive this gauntlet without or

Alright…so we are less than a week out from our first home game in a year. 3 days, 3 races…LFG (beach).

Race Day 1, Friday Night Lights Mixed Relay (40+) with a local All Star Team we lovingly call “Podium Or Bust,” made up of and . 💪🏼

Race Day 2, Pro Doubles (55-60 AG) with veteran Hyrox World Qualifier and dear friend . This is a podium-or-bust effort as well, with eyes on qualifying for Stockholm.

Race Day 3 (if I can still walk), will be Open Doubles with none other than .52 BUT, since we needed an added challenge, we will be competing in full firefighter bunker gear. đźš’ Maybe we can bring a little attention and awareness to what our first responders go through everyday and the impact on the nervous system and mental health.

DC HYROX. Upside, we PR’d. Downside with didn’t podium (came in 5th). Regardless, and I met our time goal while knowing where we can still shave off a couple more minutes. 💪🏼 Back to the lab.

So that was Vegas... This past weekend was not about speed or podiums (although I did come in 11th in my age group for the open), this trip was about VOLUME. In less than 24 hours I logged 3 races…18 km of running, 150m of sled push and 285 wall balls plus double all the other stations. No I still can’t feel my quads, but I can tell you that the NV dry air did not help things. Definitely looking forward to my next 4 races being at sea level.

Huge congrats to for her first Hyrox and not giving up (and posting a great time in our doubles race). Also, kudos to and for putting together another great event, especially the Friday night relays.

Now it’s time to focus on podiums and qualifying for worlds…LFG

First of many podiums this weekend. Pro Doubles, sub-1:09 time with the best partner in-town. Humble brag, we never trained together and worked out our transitions 10 minutes before start time. Perfect race on the stations, held 1st place until post-sled pull run, eventually dropped to 4th place and then pulled it out with a sub-4-min wall ball to make the stage in our age group. There’s definitely time to find for the next one, expect a 1:06 or better in round 2.

Body felt great despite the 2 tears in my hamstring, thank you 🤣. Jokes aside, could not have pulled this off without the PT village of .family nor without the training team at …and lastly big shoutout to gameday support of 🫶🏼
