Possible trafficking under Federal Law... note that this was violent!!! WHEN THE WAVES SETTLE, THE TRUTH MUST STILL BE HEARD.
NO CHAMPIONSHIP, NO FAME, AND NO ATHLETIC LEGACY SHOULD EVER OVERSHADOW THE SAFETY OF A CHILD.
Serious allegations have emerged involving professional surfer, former world champion and Olympian Alan Cleland Jr., following reports of an alleged sexual assault involving a 16-year-old Australian girl in Tahiti and multiple men. The World Surf League (WSL) has provisionally suspended the athlete from competition.
Professional surfer Noah Lia Klapp has also courageously come forward with allegations of repeated sexual assault, physical violence, intimidation, and psychological abuse during a relationship that began when she was only 17 years old. She says there are more victims... When a minor is allegedly sexually assaulted by multiple individuals, we must examine not only the sexual violence itself but also possible indicators of coordinated exploitation, human trafficking, and technology-facilitated abuse. If photographs or recordings were made, their circumstances, purpose, and any distribution must also be investigated. Such conduct can create additional layers of victimization that extend far beyond the original assault.
More Too Life board member, professional surfer, and survivor advocate Ryan Carlson is working alongside Founder and CEO Dr. Brook Parker Bello to raise awareness of these allegations and advocate for the protection, dignity, and long-term recovery of survivors.
Surfing is a sport of extraordinary beauty, courage, discipline, and freedom. The ocean does not discriminate. Neither should our commitment to protecting the vulnerable. We recognize the World Surf League’s provisional suspension as an important initial safeguarding measure. The process must continue with transparency, appropriate investigation, and survivor-centered accountability.
We also acknowledge the professional surfers who have publicly expressed support for those speaking out. To every victim: Your life is worth more than anyone’s reputation. Your safety matters. Your voice matters. And your healing matters.
