Immigration cases are facing increased screening and vetting.

USCIS has announced updates involving identity verification, background checks, review of supporting information, and additional checks before final decisions are made.

Incomplete, inconsistent, or poorly prepared filings can create unnecessary problems in an already serious process.

If you have an immigration case pending or are preparing to file, make sure it is handled correctly from the start.

Form I-797C is a USCIS Notice of Action.

In plain English, it’s a notice USCIS sends to tell you something happened with your immigration case. It is not automatically an approval.

It can be used for things like:

• Confirming USCIS received your application or petition
• Scheduling a biometrics appointment
• Scheduling an interview
• Reopening a case
• Rejecting a filing
• Transferring a case
• Telling you about next steps

The important thing is: you have to read what the notice actually says.

A lot of people see “I-797” and think “approval,” but I-797C is usually more of a notice/communication, not the final approval document.

Under a new DHS rule, asylum applicants who fail to pay the Annual Asylum Fee within 30 days of notification may have their pending asylum application rejected.

For immigration cases, missing a deadline can have serious consequences.

If you have a pending asylum case, make sure you understand what USCIS is requiring and when action is due. Read more: https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/dhs-announces-consequences-for-unpaid-annual-asylum-fees-unveils-new-hr-1-requirements
