JJC was the Crowd Favorite at this year's New Orleans Bar Association's Bar & Grille Competition.

The Bar & Grille law firm cooking competition is a fundraiser for the Veterans Justice Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship provides life-changing civil legal help to address the needs of low-income veterans in the New Orleans area. The New Orleans Bar & Grille is a unique opportunity that brings the legal community and private business together to fund the fellowship.

The JJC ""Scalawags"" dazzled with their maritime and pirate themed Smashworthy Vessel, their take on the traditional smashburger.

The Scalawags included attorneys Rachel Naquin handling front of the house/booth and Grant Wood on the grill smashin patties expertly prepared by special guest Judge Marcus DeLarge. Jimmy Courtenay and Cayce Peterson assisted with setup and sous-chef responsibilities.

Special thanks to Judge LaKeisha Jefferson of Civil District Court for chairing an excellent event along with Alex Domingue of Mouledoux Bland and Mollie Overton of the Louisiana Fourth Circuit.

JJC Law founding member Cayce Peterson recently took the stage at LSU Law’s 23rd Judge Alvin B. Rubin Conference on Maritime Personal Injury Law. Cayce joined a panel of fellow experts to discuss 'Issues of Maritime Defense and Indemnity,' where they tackled high-level topics including choice-of-law considerations, anti-indemnity statutes, and the intricacies of maritime contract interpretation.

Exactly 250 years ago today, on March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams sat down to write a letter that would challenge the very foundation of American law.

As the Declaration of Independence was being drafted, Abigail was already advocating for a legal system that protected everyone—not just the few. A ""Code of Laws"" is only as strong as the voices it represents, and two and a half centuries later, her words remain a vital reminder that the fight for representation and ""voice"" is the true heartbeat of the legal profession.

The Full Letter:

"I long to hear that you have declared an independency—and by the way in the new Code of Laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If particular care and attention is not paid to the Ladies we are determined to foment a Rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation.

That your S*x are Naturally Tyrannical is a Truth so thoroughly established as to admit of no dispute, but such of you as wish to be happy willingly give up the harsh title of Master for the more tender and endearing one of Friend. Why then, not put it out of the power of the vicious and the Lawless to use us with cruelty and indignity with impunity. Men of Sense in all Ages abhor those customs which treat us only as the vassals of your S*x. Regard us then as Beings placed by providence under your protection and in imitation of the Supreme Being make use of that power only for our happiness."

JJC’s own Rachel Naquin presented another CLE yesterday for NOBA’s Procrastinators’ Program! She was joined by Brittany Sloan of Sloan Law LLC and Jamie Kuo, M.D., to discuss a trending and critical topic: ""The Dangers of Med Spas: A Scope of Practice CLE.""

The panel highlighted the risks associated with the lack of physician oversight at some facilities and the serious patient injuries that can result when medical standards aren't met.

If you weren't able to attend, here's a TLDR: always make sure you’re going to a dermatologist for all of your skin needs, cosmetic or otherwise!
