17 years in, and the thing we feel most is grateful.

Grateful for the clients who trusted us, the team that shows up every day, and the communities across Southern Illinois that let us be part of their lives.

Here's a quick look at who we are and how we got here. Thank you for being part of the story.

If we've ever helped you, your family, or your business, leave us a note below, we'd love to hear from you.

Some anniversaries are about more than the number of years... they're about everything built along the way.

Today marks 17 years for Adam Lawler at Lawler Brown.

Adam took a leap in 2009 with a business plan and a conviction that Southern Illinois deserved a different kind of law firm. He opened the doors that September, and the firm blew past its ten-year growth plan inside the first year and a half.

"There was a certain way that I wanted to build the shop. Being kind of young and green, I didn't know everything I was getting into, but I said, 'I want to run my own law firm.' So in 2009, I made the leap and decided to do it."

But ask Adam what's kept clients coming back, and he doesn't talk about growth. He talks about responsiveness, and about hiring people with real roots in this community... because what you're really tasked with is caring for the people around you.

A lot can change in 17 years. What hasn't is Lawler Brownโ€™s commitment to their clients, their team, and the Southern Illinois communities we call home.

Adam, congratulations on 17 years and on everything those years have built.

Do us a favor: wish Adam a happy anniversary in the comments so he wakes up to a full inbox tomorrow.

Grief Is Already Heavy Enough.

After losing a loved one, families are often expected to make important decisions while still trying to process what has happened.

Insurance companies begin calling. Questions need answers. Paperwork starts arriving.

That can feel overwhelming.

Nick Brown describes his role this way:
"When you hire us, you don't have to make those phone calls anymore. We handle that for you."

While no legal case can undo a loss, having someone manage the legal process can give families the space they need to focus on each other.
Sometimes, that's where healing begins.

Every Injury Case Looks Different.

One of the most common things attorneys hear is: "My friend had a case just like this."

The reality is that no two injury claims are exactly the same.
Different injuries. Different insurance policies. Different facts. Different outcomes.

Nick Brown explains: "Every single case is completely different. No two cases are alike."

That's one reason it can be risky to rely on advice from friends, family, or stories you've heard online.

What happened in someone else's case may have very little to do with your own.

The best way to understand your situation is to evaluate the facts that actually apply to you.

Don't Let the Insurance Company Define Your Case.

After an accident, the insurance company often contacts people quickly.
That can feel reassuring. Someone is answering questions. Someone is offering help. Someone seems ready to take care of things.

The problem is that nobody knows the full extent of an injury right away.

"You're entitled to full compensation for the full value of your harm," explains Nick Brown

What feels like a minor injury today may require additional treatment weeks or months later. Once a claim is settled, however, there may not be an opportunity to go back and ask for more.

That's why understanding your situation before making major decisions matters.

Because you only get one opportunity to resolve a claim correctly.

The Biggest Estate Planning Mistake Happens Before Any Documents Are Signed.

Most estate planning problems don't start with bad paperwork.
They start with no planning at all.

People assume they have plenty of time. They assume everything will automatically go where they want it to go. They assume their family will figure it out.

Sometimes that's true.

Often, it isn't.

Evan Taylor says, "Everyone wants to protect their legacy. No one wants to leave it up to chance."

Estate planning isn't about preparing for the worst.

It's about creating clarity for the people you care about most and making sure your wishes are clearly documented before they're needed.

Because uncertainty is rarely a gift to leave behind.

Estate planning comes with a lot of questions, and knowing where to start can be one of the hardest parts.

Lawler Brown attorney Evan Taylor recently sat down with Farmers State Bank for an episode of the Isnโ€™t That Rich podcast to talk through trusts, wills, probate, and the role each can play in an estate plan.

The conversation offers straightforward information to help make these topics easier to understand and gives listeners a better idea of the questions they may want to consider when planning for the future.

We appreciate Farmers State Bank inviting Evan to be part of the conversation.

Most People Don't Know What They Don't Know.

After an accident, most people are focused on the obvious things.
Getting medical treatment. Missing work. Getting their vehicle repaired.

What they aren't thinking about are the things they don't know exist.
Additional insurance coverage. Evidence that needs to be preserved. Deadlines that may impact their claim down the road.

"Most people don't know they have access to uninsured and underinsured coverage," Nick Brown explains

The challenge is that once certain opportunities are missed, they can be difficult, or impossible, to recover later. That's why getting answers early matters.

Not because every situation becomes a lawsuit, but because understanding your options gives you the ability to make informed decisions before important decisions are made for you.
