With closed sales down more than 22% compared to February 2022, higher interest rates continued to make homebuyers wary. The rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage rose to 7.2% by the end of February. Because the overall supply remains at a historic low—only 1.3 months of inventory—competition for desirable properties is still robust.
