"At-Will" is the phrase employers use to end the conversation before it starts. What it does not mean is unlimited power to terminate. California law carved out significant exceptions specifically because the alternative left too much room for abuse. If you were told your termination was legal simply because California is an at-will state, that answer deserves a second look.
