Thanksgiving, a day to celebrate, enjoy, partake, be grateful and generous to others. Rooted in historical events that reflect gratitude, community, and the complex relationships between Indigenous peoples and European settlers.

The first Thanksgiving predate Plymouth feast by at least 50 years. Spanish explorers in Florida held services as early as 1565. Virginia held thanksgivings in 1610. The commonly cited origin is 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This event is considered one of the first peaceful exchanges between Indigenous peoples and European settlers.

Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, New England colonies celebrated various days of thanksgiving, often marked by religious observances and communal meals. During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln declared a national Thanksgiving Day to be observed on the last Thursday of November. This was influenced by the persistent efforts of Sarah Josepha Hale, a writer and editor who campaigned for a unified national holiday. Congress officially set Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday of November. A few decades later President John Kennedy introduced the “pardoning” of the turkey, which was eventually formalized by President George H. W. Bush in 1989.
Thanksgiving continues to evolve, serving as both a celebration of gratitude and an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history and values.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, from Stephen Hofer and the whole team here at Aerlex Law Group.

AI-controlled external airbags! Project REBIRTH, safety system, would retrofit aircrafts with sensors that constantly monitor flight conditions. If the system determines a crash below 3,000 feet is unavoidable, giant airbags would deploy, forming a protective cocoon to absorb impact energy and reduce damage. An infrared beacon and flashing lights would also be activated during the crash with the goal of making the cushioned wreckage easier for emergency responders to locate. Nominated for 2025 James Dyson Award. Still in its early testing phases, they say computer simulations show the system can reduce crash forces by more than 60 percent. A softer landing, combined with faster, AI-driven emergency response decisions, could mean the difference between passengers surviving or dying in a crash. REBIRTH is ready for scaled testing, with schematics, simulations, and materials data prepared…

The future of flight may not include a runway…Electra is developing a new “STOL” (short take-off and landing). The Electra plane is electrically powered. Tests reveal many capabilities on varied surfaces, pavements and grassy fields, even an access road. EL2’s has…“pinpoint landing capabilities,” - CEO Mark Allen. The goal is to bring air travel closer to the user. Hopes to begin commercially flying the 9-passenger EL9 by 2029. .airways

Commercial aircrafts are fairly unchanged for decades. While electric vehicles are revolutionizing. Significant engineering challenges with aircrafts involving aerodynamics, thrust, and lift must be addressed. In addition, thousands of individual components require rigorous design, testing, and manufacturing.
JetZero, an aviation startup that is developing an all-wing aircraft aimed at improving fuel efficiency by up to 50 percent by the 2030s.
Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform that can connect design, production, and maintenance through digital threads is helping by utilizing cutting-edge AI at every step of the process.
Integrating AI so deeply, Siemens helps businesses plan for the future in a way they never could before.

Siemens lets companies begin with the final product in mind by providing them with AI-assisted digital twin technology. “A digital twin is a virtual representation of a product,” explains Tengan. “It allows you to visualize exactly what the product will look like, and how it will act. It allows you to do comprehensive simulations to verify the performance of the product.”
While creating and testing new industrial designs used to require thousands of man hours and prohibitively expensive equipment, the advent of a digital platform that utilizes AI to create massive efficiencies is a game-changer.

Seeing what’s possible with Siemens, it’s hard to not be excited about the technology we’re about to see take off.

22 years since Concorde brought an end to the world’s only supersonic civil aviation. Since then, air travel has been locked at subsonic speeds. Now, Britain and Europe return to the frontier. The Invictus project, aims to deliver a reusable hypersonic “space plane” that could travel from London to New York in just one hour. The LAPCAT A2, a 139-meter-long, 400-ton hydrogen-fueled airliner carrying 300 passengers at Mach 5.2. Its fuselage would use advanced ceramic panels instead of aluminum or titanium, which would melt under skin temperatures approaching 1,000 degrees Celsius. Dispensed with windows, replacing them with interior display screens linked to external cameras, reduce weight and maintain structural integrity. Powered by four Scimitar precooler-based engines derived from SABRE, the A2 promised an antipodal range of 18,700 kilometers, making it capable of connecting Europe with Australia or Asia in a matter of hours. The road to Mach 5 will be steep, but if successful, Britain and Europe could once again lead the world into a new era of flight.
