📖 Authors: Your Work May Be Impacted by AI Pirating
If you’re a book author, your copyrighted work may have been illegally copied for Anthropic’s AI model, Claude. A pending class action lawsuit alleges millions of books were taken from online datasets without permission. Anthropic denies liability, but a proposed settlement is now underway.
Eligible authors may qualify for up to $3,000 per book through the class settlement, paid over time. Some authors are also choosing to opt out and pursue individual copyright claims, which could seek significantly higher damages per book, though recovery is not guaranteed.
⚠️ Important deadlines apply. To recover anything, authors must take action by filing a claim, opting out, or objecting to the settlement. Doing nothing may result in losing the right to compensation altogether.
Even if your book is not listed in the settlement, you may still have potential claims, including against other AI companies or for datasets not covered by this case. If you want more information about pursuing an individual case, including making the decision to opt out, book a complimentary consultation with James Bartolomei, a licensed attorney that represents Copyright holders who have opted out.
This is for general information only and is not legal advice. Authors do not need a lawyer to submit a settlement claim and should not pay someone just to file one. Complimentary consultations are available for authors who want to better understand their options.
