I just published a new blog post about ignition interlock driver's licenses for Kentucky DUI offenders.

If your license has been suspended in Kentucky due to a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) conviction, you may be eligible to obtain an ignition interlock driver’s license (IIDL) to regain your driving privileges. This device, which requires you to pass a breathalyzer... Read more here: https://bit.ly/EricRayDUI

Check out my new blog post, "Using a Firearm in Self-Defense in Kentucky," in which I describe how the law - particularly regarding first-degree wanton endangerment and its potential classification as a violent offense - changed in 2024.

Every Kentucky gun owner needs to know what the law says, and this is a great place to find out. Read it here:

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to use a firearm in self-defense, it is crucial to understand how the law in Kentucky might view your

I was honored recently to receive an Award from Legal Aid of the Bluegrass for assisting their clients in obtaining expungements. Legal Aid of the Bluegrass is an amazing group that makes a real difference in our communities. I am truly blessed to be a very small part of the life changing services they offer. Expungements are crucial because a criminal record can affect someone's employment and eligibility for government programs. Our expungement system offers a second chance for those who have made a mistake or a bad decision but have since turned their lives around.

To start off July, I’ve written a new blog post entitled, “Are juvenile offenders who have been classified as “violent offenders” eligible for probation or parole?”

The Kentucky Supreme Court has made this clear. Their ruling serves as a warning that attorneys should never "assume" anything about the law. Any legal defense (and prosecution) must be supported by the law, not by our assumptions about the law.

I just posted a new blog article entitled, "The Second Amendment and Domestic Violence Orders." It starts out....

“'A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution is a well-known and often-recited right granted to American citizens by the Bill of Rights. Still, it remains an arena of debate in the legal world. In recent years there have been numerous court cases surrounding the constitutionality of limiting this right....."

Last week, we hit a huge milestone when we received our 100th FIVE-STAR review on Google!

That's 100 reviews: Every. Single. One. Is. Five. Stars!

This is something any business should rightfully celebrate, but for a criminal defense lawyer, it's especially gratifying, since so much can go wrong in criminal cases, and the stakes for the client are usually so consequential and oftentimes they are life-altering. And, understandably, many people don't want to "go public' with the fact that they've had to hire a criminal defense attorney.

I got my first FIVE-STAR review on Google eight years ago. Since then, I've represented more than 1,000 clients. Each one had his or her own situation and circumstance. Each one had been charged with a crime of some sort - some misdemeanors, some felonies, others with DUI or traffic offenses, some with drug charges, and yes, just about everything in between. Each of my clients had his or her own story, his or her own family, his or her own background, and his or her own previous experiences with the law.

The common denominator in every case is that I got to know each client personally, I fought for them, and I got what I trust was the best possible result for their individual situation. What I've learned is that every person is an individual: worthy of competent and vigorous representation; and every case is different: meriting a customized defense strategy for their specific situation. An effective attorney gets to know his or her clients and takes the time to prepare a personalized defense strategy that involves the client and considers his or her wishes.

I am grateful to each of my clients for their trust in me over the years. And I'm thankful for those who took time to share publicly about their experiences with me and my office. I never take anything for granted, but I do appreciate reaching this milestone. I'll now continue to work as hard as ever to work my way up to 200. It may take a while, but I'm heading that direction!
