¿Sabías que no todas las green cards son iguales?

Si tu matrimonio tenía menos de dos años cuando tu caso fue aprobado, USCIS te emitió una green card condicional de 2 años en lugar de una permanente. Eso significa que aún no has terminado el proceso.

Antes de que esa tarjeta expire, necesitas solicitar la eliminación de condiciones y demostrar que tu matrimonio es genuino. Perder ese plazo puede causar complicaciones serias para tu estatus migratorio.

Did you know that not all green cards are created equal?

If your marriage was less than two years old when your case was approved, USCIS issued you a 2-year conditional green card instead of a permanent one. That means your work is not done yet.

Before that card expires you will need to file to remove the conditions and prove your marriage is genuine. Missing that deadline can cause serious complications for your immigration status.

A federal judge ruled today that USCIS acted unlawfully when it froze green card, work permit, and citizenship applications for people from 39 countries last November. These were people who filed the right paperwork, paid the fees, showed up to their interviews, and did everything they were supposed to do. Their cases were frozen anyway.

Today the court said enough.

Un juez federal dictaminó hoy que USCIS actuó ilegalmente cuando congeló las solicitudes de tarjeta verde, permiso de trabajo y ciudadanía para personas de 39 países el pasado noviembre. Estas eran personas que presentaron los documentos correctos, pagaron las tarifas, se presentaron a sus entrevistas e hicieron todo lo que se suponía que debían hacer. Sus casos fueron congelados de todas formas.

On May 22nd, USCIS issued a memo saying green cards inside the U.S. should only be approved in exceptional circumstances. These two were approved on May 28th and May 30th, with no extra evidence requested to satisfy that standard.

Green card approvals within the U.S. are still happening.
