Lone Elm Road at K-10 just got $16 million closer to becoming a full-blown highway interchange.
The city of Lenexa announced the federal dollars last month to help fund a new diamond interchange where Lone Elm meets K-10, connecting Lenexa and Olathe. The project will also add two miles of auxiliary lanes between K-7 and Woodland.
It's part of a much bigger $1.24 billion KDOT plan to overhaul a stretch of the increasingly congested K-10 corridor in western Johnson Count. But not everyone is happy about it.
The Olathe City Council formally opposed the interchange back when it was in discussion two years ago and some Lenexa residents keep raising concerns it will create a dangerous walk to school for children in the area.
