“Gossard Girls: The Women Who Shaped the Upper Peninsula” will tell the story of the hundreds of women who found employment sewing corsets and bras at Gossard factories in Gwinn and Ishpeming and how their labor helped sustain their families and towns. “Unconventional: The Life and Service of Ruth Gibson Butler” will chronicle the life and legacy of Butler, the only female delegate from the Upper Peninsula at the 1961-62 Michigan Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) and the first woman elected to the Houghton Village Council in its 114-year history. Join us to learn about these dedicated women at the U.P. History Conference this June 25-28!

I always laugh when I mention that I still practice law, now at almost 72, & others ask "Why? - to which I respond "Why not?" ... I have colleagues in their 80s & 90s, still mentally sharp who love lawyering, & here is this war hero who did it till he passed at 106! 🙂 ... outstanding.....

John Morton-Finney lived an extraordinary life. He was born in 1889, and he faced barriers that made education and professional success difficult. But he never stopped trying. He served in the U.S. Army as a Buffalo Soldier with the 24th Infantry Regiment, went on to earn 11 college degrees, taught....
