FIU Law celebrates Professor H.T. Smith, founding director of our Trial Advocacy Program, on being named the Professor Megan A. Fairlie Professor of the Year for the 2025–2026 school year.

This recognition speaks to his remarkable dedication to students, his powerful presence in the classroom, and his lasting impact on the legal profession. Professor Smith was also recently honored with the 2025 Criminal Justice Award from the Miami-Dade Bar and continues to be recognized in The Best Lawyers in America.

His leadership has helped drive an exceptional year for FIU Law trial advocacy, including major wins at the 2026 Chester Bedell Memorial Mock Trial Championship and the American Association for Justice Regional Championship.
