You should be absolutely certain about your choices at the ballot box. That might mean doing some homework before you head to your polling location.

On your ballot this year, you'll be asked whether various judges should retain their seats. Not many people keep up with the day-to-day activities of Court of Appeals and Tax Court judges, so how do you vote?

Mirror Indy spoke with some individuals who provided some advice. Consider reading their opinions on cases, as well as their dissents, or consult the Indiana State Bar Association's survey.

Public Question 1 is on every Hoosier's ballot this election. It's important to know what you're voting for, and what that vote means.

A yes vote would expand Indiana's power to jail people before their trial, and before they've been convicted of a crime. A no vote would reject the amendment and maintain the current constitutional right to bail, which still includes exceptions for murder and treason.

This November, Hoosiers will vote on Public Question 1. This amendment to our state's Constitution would expand when the government can jail someone before trial.

Taking away someone’s liberty before conviction is one of the most serious powers we give the government, so it's important voters understand exactly what their vote means and the current data behind pretrial release in Indiana.
