The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is now law and there are five key areas NAR will be watching as implementation moves forward. From building more homes to expanding access to homeownership and encouraging innovation, the legislation takes aim at America’s housing shortage. City of Hutchinson hosting an open house on data center regulations - Aug 12, 5:30 to 7 p.m. An opportunity to learn more about data centers in general and provide input as the city considers policies around these type of developments.

City to Host Community Open House on Data Center Regulations

The City of Hutchinson will host a community open house on Wednesday, Aug. 12, to gather public input as it continues developing zoning regulations for data centers.

The open house will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hutchinson Fire Department Command and Training Center, 3201 E. 4th Ave.

Residents are welcome to attend at any time during the event. Information stations will allow attendees to learn about data centers, better understand the City's regulatory process, ask questions, and provide feedback on future regulations.

As data centers become more common across the country, the City is proactively evaluating how they should be addressed within Hutchinson's zoning regulations. Data centers can present land use, infrastructure, and operational considerations that differ from traditional commercial and industrial development, making it important to establish clear local standards before future projects are proposed.

The City's current effort is focused on developing the regulations and review process that would apply to future data center projects.

Community input is an important part of that process. During the Aug. 12 open house, residents will have the opportunity to share feedback on the issues and considerations they believe are most important. Information gathered during the meeting will be reviewed by City staff and used to help shape draft regulations as they continue to be developed.

No regulations will be presented for approval at the meeting. The open house is one step in the City's broader effort to gather information, evaluate potential impacts, and develop regulations that reflect the needs and priorities of the Hutchinson community.

Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more about the process, ask questions, and share their perspectives. Additional background information is available on the City's Planning for Data Centers and Battery Energy Storage Systems webpage at hutchinsonks.gov.

Media Availability

City staff will be available for media interviews prior to the start of the open house. Members of the media interested in speaking with staff are encouraged to arrive before the public event begins at 5:30 p.m.

Meeting Information

Date: Wednesday, Aug. 12
