✨ Women’s History Month | GHBC Member Spotlight ✨

We’re proud to spotlight Erika Veal, Founder of Your Legacy Attorney, PLLC!

Your Legacy Attorney (YLA) is a Houston-based law firm focused on estate planning, probate, and business transactions — serving families, first-generation wealth builders, and entrepreneurs who are intentional about protecting what they’re building and preserving generational wealth across Texas.

Erika launched YLA after witnessing too many families lose property, businesses, and hard-earned progress simply because the right conversations and legal protections were never in place. Her mission is rooted in one truth: legacy is intentional, not accidental. Through education, guidance, and partnership, she meets clients where they are and empowers them to make informed decisions that secure their future.

Building her firm has required patience, consistency, and trust — especially in an industry driven by long-standing relationships and referrals. But her commitment to showing up as both a skilled attorney and a trusted partner has allowed her to build meaningful connections and serve her community with purpose.

As a GHBC member, Erika has found alignment with a community of leaders focused on economic empowerment, collaboration, and long-term growth — strengthening both her network and her impact.

Looking ahead, her focus is legacy impact — serving more families, expanding education around wealth protection, and supporting strategic growth alongside fellow Houston entrepreneurs.

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? Start before you feel ready. Protect your brand, stay consistent, and never shrink your vision.

We’re back for the final Wealth Wednesday in February breaking down the C in the ABCs of Estate Planning.

💡 Most people think estate planning is about money. It’s not. It’s about CONTROL.

💡 Control means deciding:
1️⃣ Who manages your assets
2️⃣ When your children/beneficiaries receive money
3️⃣ How it’s protected
4️⃣ And who makes decisions if you can’t

💎 No plan means the court is in control. A clear plan means you are.

💡 If you’re ready to take control of protecting your legacy, book your estate planning consultation with Your Legacy Attorney and let’s make sure your assets land exactly where you intend. 🤝🏽⚖️

We’re back for another Wealth Wednesday and this week I’m breaking down the B in the ABCs of Estate Planning.

💡 Estate planning starts with knowing who gets what and making sure your paperwork matches your intentions and not assumptions. Assets mean nothing if they don’t reach the right people.
That’s B: Beneficiaries.

💡Beneficiaries are the people (or entities) you choose to receive your assets when you pass away. They can sometimes override your Will on certain accounts so naming them correctly definitely matters.

💡 Common assets that require beneficiary designations are:
1️⃣ Life insurance policies
2️⃣ Retirement accounts (401(k), IRAs)
3️⃣ Payable-on-death (POD) for bank accounts and investment accounts
4️⃣ Transfer-on-death deed (TODD) for homes, land, and mineral rights.
5️⃣ Annuities

💡 Your beneficiaries can be your spouse, children (minor or adult), other family members, close friends, a trust or a charity.

💎 Here’s what most people overlook: outdated beneficiary forms can send money to an unintended child/relative, trigger court involvement for minors or trigger court involvement for probate.

💡 If you haven’t reviewed your designations in a while, you’re guessing and not planning. 🛑

📅 Book your estate planning consultation and let’s make sure your assets land exactly where you intend. 🤝🏽⚖️

We’re back for another Wealth Wednesday and this week I’m breaking down the ABCs of Estate Planning.

💡Estate planning starts with knowing what you actually own and how it’s titled. That’s A = Assets.

💡Assets are anything you own that has financial value or legal title attached to your name. If it would show up on a balance sheet or require paperwork to transfer, it’s an asset.

Common examples of Assets are:
• 🏡 Real estate (home, rental property, land, mineral rights)
• 💵 Bank accounts and retirement accounts (401(k), IRA)
• 🔖 Life insurance policies
• 💡Business interests (LLCs, corporations, and partnerships)
• 📉 Investment accounts (stocks, bonds, brokerage accounts)
• 🚘 Vehicles
• Valuable personal property (jewelry and art) 🖼️
• Digital assets (online businesses, crypto, trademarks)

Here’s the part most people miss: how your assets are titled determines how they transfer. A will alone doesn’t control everything.

If you’re not 100% sure what you own or how it would pass, it’s time for clarity.

📅 Book your estate planning consultation with Your Legacy Attorney and let’s get clear on your assets the right way.
