Recently, I reread this passage from the Diary of Anne Frank and shuddered. How did we get here⁉ I am terrified for the soul of America. It is absolutely chilling how often I have heard similar if not identical utterances today.
“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” —Anne Frank, Diary of Anne Frank, January 13, 1943
These lines were written in the midst of one of history’s darkest times. They should echo so much louder today than in 1943 because we know this evil. We have seen it before and we know better—but too few of us are trying to halt America's evil descent. The way things are right now, America is a freight train racing downhill without any brakes and there is no end in sight.
Every day, we hear about families being separated, people being displaced, and the most vulnerable among us being pushed aside—all of them human beings, every last one.
You need not wonder what you would have done in 1943, because you are doing it right now. You are either idly accepting of the atrocities being visited upon your fellow human, or you are doing everything in your power to stop it.
Anne’s diary isn’t just a piece of history—it’s a warning and reminder of what happens when we look away instead of heeding calls to choose empathy, courage, and action instead. At the end of the day, it is on us to build something better: a society grounded in compassion, understanding, and unity.
I dare you to watch this and tell me you do not see the parallels between N**i Germany 1943 and America 2025. If you miss the parallel, then simply search the internet for "ICE" videos—even better, add any city name to your search—and see for yourself mounds of evidence proving the current Administration's directive for ICE to terrorize our fellow human beings. 🧨
