18-26 year old buyers are active in the real estate market now and are more likely than any other generation to be single home buyers. This is great news. During my 23 years in real estate I've seen a rise of single men/women buying homes to live in. It's not easy on Oahu - homes are expensive here! But better to lock in a mortgage rate, have the stability of not having to keep moving and be able to focus on other aspects of your future than to keep renting. You are paying for place to live anyway - why not pay your own mortgage if you can and gain the extra value as your home value rises over the years. Owning your own home sets up a strong financial future. I know it did for me - my husband and I purchased a home about 6 months after getting married - we were 23&25. But with so many people putting marriage off until a later (or being in committed relationships, but not technically married), it might make for financial sense to buy rather than to wait. Just be sure to protect your financial interests if you buy a place on your own financial strength with someone you plan to put on the title if you are not married.
