We warmly welcome back Rodd H. Yano to the firm. He rejoins the Transactional group as Of Counsel in our Honolulu office. Rodd’s areas of practice include commercial real estate development and operations with an emphasis in commercial property sales and lease negotiation and administration, residential subdivision project development, condominium formation and registration, land use issues, and real estate financing.

We are glad to have Min Kyung (Rachel) Kim join the firm as a litigation associate. She received her J.D. from the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law, her M.S. in Business Administration from Seoul National University, and her B.A. from the University of Rochester, where she triple majored in Japanese, Political Science, and Psychology. Rachel was raised in Saipan and is fluent in Korean.

Partner Melissa Lambert, a Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation (HWLF) board member, celebrated with Carlsmith colleagues at HWLF’s annual gala and fundraiser to advance the legal rights of women and children. Proceeds from the event support grants to local organizations that provide direct services to disadvantaged, disenfranchised, and/or at-risk women and children.

Carlsmith partner Joy Miyasaki, the Hawaii State Chair of ACTEC, was a featured speaker at ACTEC’s Western Fellows Institute and Western Regional Meeting in Oregon. Joy’s presentation reflected on state income & estate tax planning for non-residents. ACTEC, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, is a prestigious national organization of leaders in trust and estate law, who are peer-elected as ACTEC Fellows.

We celebrate Daniel Padilla's promotion to Partner. His primary practice areas are pension, ERISA, banking and finance. He also remains deeply involved in various professional and community organizations, including as the current President of the Filipino Lawyers Association and as a violinist with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

Daniel Padilla served as a panelist discussing the Filipino Experience in Hawaii within the Broader U.S.-Philippine Relationship. The conversation was co-hosted by the Hawaii Philippines Business & Economic Council (HPBEC) and the Filipino American Historical Society of Hawaii (FAHSOH) to commemorate, among other things, 80 years of Philippines’ post-WWII diplomatic ties with the U.S. Daniel shared his research on the life and accomplishments of Pablo Manlapit, Hawaii’s first Filipino Lawyer.
