Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly hails from North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a deep-rooted passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice revolves around various aspects of family matters. She focuses a majority of her practice in divorce cases, alimony disputes, marital property distribution, child custody battles, c
hild support arrangements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, enforcement and post-divorce issues, step-parent and private party adoptions, as well as child welfare concerns. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including wills, trusts, probate, and estate administration, along with commercial, contract, and civil litigation cases. Ashley has served a court-appointed mediator since 2019, assisting parties in helping them resolve their matters without need for litigation and court involvement. In addition to court-appointed mediation, Ashley also mediates in private cases for individuals who would like to avoid the litigation and court process.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Loyola University of Maryland, where she earned dual Bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. Graduating in 2013, she excelled academically, ranking among the top 10 students in her class. During her time at law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the esteemed Western New England Law Review, showcasing her commitment to legal scholarship and research. Following the completion of her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship journey, working for distinguished jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She had the privilege of serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. Subsequently, in 2014, she returned to her hometown of Hagerstown to clerk for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long at the Washington County Circuit Court, deepening her understanding of the local legal landscape. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. Her primary focus at the firm involved representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases concerning child welfare. Through her dedicated efforts, Ashley played a vital role in assisting children who had suffered abuse or neglect at the hands of their parents or caregivers. Her commitment to social justice extended beyond her legal practice as she actively served as a board member for the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, working diligently to raise awareness about human trafficking in the tri-state area. In 2017, she became a founding member of Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., where she developed her practice in the areas of family law – divorce, custody, child support and guardianships – as well as estate planning – wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directive/healthcare proxies – and mediation. Ashley founded Wilburn Law Office, LLC, in 2023, with a commitment to providing a personalized approach to every client’s needs.
