During Divorce With Respect Week, Collaborative Divorce professionals like myself are offering free 30-minute consultations for individuals who are considering or going through divorce.

What is Divorce With Respect Week?
Divorce With Respect Week is an annual awareness initiative created by Collaborative Divorce professionals across the U.S. Its purpose is to educate the public that divorce does not have to be a destructive, courtroom-driven process. The week highlights respectful, family-focused alternatives—especially Collaborative Divorce—that prioritize communication, dignity, and long-term well-being.

As part of this initiative, I am offering a private, informational consultation where you can:
• Ask questions about the divorce process
• Learn about collaborative and out-of-court options
• Explore ways to resolve matters respectfully and efficiently

There is no obligation to move forward with any services. The purpose of this consultation is simply to help you understand your choices so you can approach this transition with clarity, dignity, and confidence.
If this would be helpful to you or someone you know,
feel free to reach out to the office using the contact info in our profile to schedule your free consultation.

Hi 👋 In honor of the 10 year (!) anniversary of Giordano Law next month, I wanted to take moment to share a little bit about me. My name is Michele and I am the attorney and founder of the law firm, Giordano Law, PLC.

I began practicing family law immediately after passing the bar exam many (MANY) years ago! 🤣🫣 I started working in a small family law focused firm for a handful of years until I moved over to the family law group of a larger full-service law firm in downtown Grand Rapids. In 2015, I founded Giordano Law and made the commitment to continue serving families all over West Michigan - family law is all I do!

In addition to my family law firm, I am also co-owner of a second firm, Rapid QDRO, which provides flat-fee drafting services of specialized retirement division orders pursuant to a divorce (more about that in a future post!).

I believe a good family law attorney has an arsenal of tools at her disposal in order to best help her clients. As there is no one-size-fits-all approach to families, in addition to being an experienced litigator, I have taken the time to become a trained domestic relations mediator and am trained in the practice of Collaborative Law. I have represented clients through divorce, parenting time & custody issues, support modifications, pre & post-nuptial agreements, same s*x marriages, and, my favorite, adoptions! I have worked with domestic violence victims, stay-at-home parents, business owners…just about every family dynamic you can think of. I love helping people and lead with empathy, compassion and expertise to assist families in their transition to the next chapter of their lives.

I have a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures. I’m a dual citizen of both the 🇺🇸 and 🇮🇹, so I’m constantly trying to brush up on my Italian language skills in the hopes to someday become fluent (ciao!). I love to cook & roam around any farmers market I can find, lift heavy weights at the gym, read under the shade of my pergola and spend time with family, friends & the people that I love.

Divorce and family law issues can be scary and I understand that. I’m here to help, whenever you need me. ⚖️

Kent County voters:

There is a very important race in this year's local elections and it is so, SO important you turn your ballot over and vote in the judicial races this year.

There is one open seat in the 17th Circuit Court and the seat is assigned to the Family Division. As a dedicated family law attorney for over 17 years, I can tell you with complete authority that we need experienced judges on the family law bench - people who understand the intricacies of this area of the law and how much it impacts the families and children in our community. Over the years, judges have been assigned or elected to the family division who have no desire to care for that docket and no experience in the complexities of the cases before them. The stakes are high when dealing with families and children and the judicial turnover has been frequent and, quite frankly, frustrating.

Keep in mind that the key principle in the family division centers on the concept of "One Judge, One Family." To give you a real life perspective, I have had several cases in the last couple of years that have had no less than three (THREE!) different judges assigned between the initial filing and the current case status. Several of these matters involve very small children, substance abuse concerns and/or complex issues of domestic violence. Because of all of the turnover, every change creates a ripple effect that can greatly impact the families who need help - our Kent County families.

To look at a client and say “I have absolutely no idea how this judge treats issues like yours” is a difficult conversation to have. To have to tell the same client three+ times that they have a new judge who has no familiarity with their case history or with family law when they come to me concerned about their children can be absolutely devastating.

I do not begrudge candidates from wanting to sit on the bench. However, the family division needs someone who can sit on that bench from Day One and know how to handle these cases. The families and children in Kent County deserve that. There are two candidates up for the open 17th Circuit Court position and only one has experience in family law and is the only candidate who has committed, on the record, to staying in the family division for the duration of her tenure as judge. That person is Jennifer Johnsen.

Jennifer Johnsen for Judge 2024 has spent her entire career dedicated to family law and as someone who does this work every day I can tell you that we need her. The Kent County legal community needs her, the family law bar needs her, and Kent County families need her. There is no one better or more qualified for this job and Jennifer receives my endorsement whole-heartedly.
