A new school year usually means a new routine — and for co-parents, that can mean new questions. Who signs the school forms? Whose address goes on the enrollment paperwork? What happens when the schedule in your parenting time order doesn't quite match the new bus stop or after-school pickup?

Myth: Hiring a family law attorney means things are about to get ugly.

Fact: The right attorney makes things less adversarial -- not more.

I hear this one a lot. People are afraid that bringing an attorney into the room automatically escalates things. That it signals war. But here's what I've seen in 19 years of practice: the right attorney de-escalates. They bring clarity, structure, and focus to a process that can easily spiral without it.

My job isn't to fight for the sake of fighting. It's to help you reach the best possible outcome for your family -- with as little damage as possible along the way.

That's a very different thing.

One day at a time.

It sounds simple. Maybe even a little obvious. But it's the truest thing I know about getting through a divorce -- or really, getting through anything hard.

You don't have to solve everything today. You don't have to have every answer, every decision, every detail figured out before you take the next step.

You just have to take the next step. That's it. That's the whole thing.

I have a lightbox in my office that says 'One Day At A Time.' I put it there on purpose -- because I want every person who comes through my door to see it. To feel it. To remember it on the days when everything feels impossible.

You are going to get through this.
