💧 Instructor Spotlight: Aaron Clay

When it comes to real estate in Western Colorado, understanding water is essential. That’s why we’re excited to welcome Aaron Clay to GJARA’s REALTOR® Education Day!

Raised in Hotchkiss, Colorado, Aaron brings decades of experience in real estate and water law. After graduating from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1979, he practiced law in Delta from 1980 to 2018, with an emphasis on real estate, water, business planning, and estate planning.

For more than 25 years, Aaron also served as the Water Referee for Colorado Water Court, Division 4, covering the Gunnison, Uncompahgre, and San Miguel River Basins. Throughout his career, he represented numerous water conservancy districts, ditch companies, and water users across Western Colorado.

Aaron has shared his expertise through his course, “Water Law in a Nutshell,” teaching REALTORS®, attorneys, appraisers, closers, and other professionals how to better understand this complex and important topic.

At REALTOR® Education Day, Aaron will help our members strengthen their understanding of water law and its connection to real estate in the Grand Valley.

We’re excited to have Aaron bring his decades of knowledge and experience to this year’s program!

🐞 Instructor Spotlight: Ryan Surad

A Grand Junction native with a passion for protecting our local environment and agriculture, Ryan Surad will be joining us as an instructor at GJARA REALTOR® Education Day!

Ryan serves as the Mesa County Noxious W**d and Pest Coordinator, overseeing education, outreach, and treatment efforts for invasive pests and plants throughout the county. A graduate of Palisade High School and Colorado Mesa University, Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Biology.

For REALTOR® Education Day, Ryan will focus on the Japanese Beetle, an invasive pest that can cause significant damage to agriculture and ornamental plants. He’ll share local data collected from 2023–2026, discuss Mesa County’s ongoing eradication efforts, and explain what is being done to protect our community and agricultural economy.

Ryan also serves as the Pest Inspector for the Upper Grand Valley Pest Control District, giving him firsthand knowledge of the challenges invasive pests present throughout Palisade, Orchard Mesa, and the surrounding area.

Join us to learn more about what “bugs” buyers and gain valuable local knowledge you can put to use when working with clients throughout the Grand Valley!
