Downsizing sounds dreamy until you actually do it🫣

Here’s what nobody prepares you for 👇

I work with a lot of clients who are ready to sell the big family home and simplify. And I love helping them do it. But I always have this conversation first because there are things that catch people off guard.

01 – The emotional part is harder than the logistical part
You can hire movers. You can’t hire someone to help you decide which of your kid’s childhood artwork makes the cut. Give yourself grace with this process.

02 – You probably have more stuff than you think
Most people underestimate how much they’ve accumulated. Start going through closets and storage spaces NOW, before you list. It’ll also make the home show better.

03 – The math works out better than you expect
Trading a larger mortgage (or pulling equity) for a smaller, more manageable payment often frees up more cash flow than people anticipate. Run the numbers with your agent and your financial advisor together.

04 – Location suddenly matters differently
When you’re not tied to school districts, the whole city opens up. Some of my favorite downsizing clients end up in neighborhoods they never would have considered before. This part is actually really fun.

05 – You don’t have to give up what you love
A smaller home doesn’t mean a smaller life. It often means more time, more money, and more energy for the things that actually matter to you.
