If anyone's in need of help with appeals, I'd recommend Adam Ruffin

I offer full appellate representation in South Carolina, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. IĀ also engage in trial support to ensure that strong legal issues are properly preserved for appellate review.

BEWARE SCAMMERS CLAIMING TO BE FROM SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Scammers have been calling local residents today claiming to have warrants for their arrest from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.

Several people have alerted the sheriff's office that a person claiming to be an officer instructed them to withdraw money from their bank account and deposit it in another account. Caller ID falsely said the telephone call was coming from Georgetown County Sheriff's office.

Warrants are never served over the telephone, and no law enforcement officer will ask for money. If you receive one of these calls, hang up and notify the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5102.

Never give out your personal information over the phone or buy gift cards to satisfy a debt.

Folks - you must do everything you can to protect our community in the coming weeks. Our local hospitals are full or nearly so. Please wear your masks, celebrate the holidays apart from everyone but your local immediate family, do not travel if possible, wash your hands, and err on the side of caution for the next few weeks.

Everyone stay safe, healthy, and have the happiest holidays you can under the circumstances.

Officials urge people to be cautious over the holidays

Beginning July 3, employees and members of the public will be required to wear appropriate masks that cover the nose and mouth in Georgetown County businesses, including grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants and retail stores. Restaurant patrons are exempt while dining, but employees must wear a mask at all times while having face-to-face interaction with the public.
Businesses are required to post written notification at their main entrance notifying customers of the new law. A printable sign can be downloaded free at gtcounty.org if a business does not wish to create or purchase their own.
The ordinance will be in place for 60 days, unless terminated sooner by council. Anyone found in violation of the ordinance may be fined for each offense.
The full ordinance and additional information may be found at gtcounty.org.

If you have the means, tomorrow is a great day to give to your local charities.

While you're enjoying this beautiful weekend, tell a friend, tell a neighbor, even tell a stranger about Palmetto Giving Day. It takes minutes to give and the impact will make a huge difference!

Clients and potential clients, we are not accepting face to face appointments and have not since Monday of this week. There is no time table for when this will change. With few exceptions, at this moment in time there is nothing more important in any of our lives than avoiding contact with each other.

A lot of folks in my area appear to be unconvinced that the steps being taken to limit the spread of this virus are necessary to avoid potential catastrophy.

Looking at available data, the danger should not be a hard sell.

Take this presentation with a grain of salt as its got some generalizations and it's a couple days old, but the arguments are convincing, the cites are reliable, and its use of population/infection statistics appear unbiased and based on the best current evidence at a glance.

Without taking enumerable variables into account and if no preventative measures were being taken; given the infection rate of this virus, the typical delay in the onset of symptoms, and the statistically likely number of folks that will require an (average) three week hospital stay; the estimated number of concurrent hospitalizations would be between nine and ten times the number of available hospital beds in the country around June of this year (~9.3 million needed vs. ~1 million available).

Measures are being taken, so the hospitalization figure above is likely to be significantly lower. But there is no way the rate will be able to decrease by the 90% or so that's needed with people scoffing at and ignoring the warnings and recommendations of the science community.

This is and will continue to be hard on Georgetown (also on South Carolina, also on the United States, and probably in the majority of the world). While there is no need to panic, as a community of individuals we must all understand the responsibility we have to each other in doing everything we can to stop the spread of this disease.

I (Taylor Silver) will be available for phone calls which are currently routed through an answering service (in which all of the employees are currently working from home - and so should you if at all possible). Keep in mind that I'll likely have my two year old with me, so I apologize in advance for the background noise. Be smart and stay healthy!
