Clients and potential clients, we are not accepting face to face appointments and have not since Monday of this week. There is no time table for when this will change. With few exceptions, at this moment in time there is nothing more important in any of our lives than avoiding contact with each other.
A lot of folks in my area appear to be unconvinced that the steps being taken to limit the spread of this virus are necessary to avoid potential catastrophy.
Looking at available data, the danger should not be a hard sell.
Take this presentation with a grain of salt as its got some generalizations and it's a couple days old, but the arguments are convincing, the cites are reliable, and its use of population/infection statistics appear unbiased and based on the best current evidence at a glance.
Without taking enumerable variables into account and if no preventative measures were being taken; given the infection rate of this virus, the typical delay in the onset of symptoms, and the statistically likely number of folks that will require an (average) three week hospital stay; the estimated number of concurrent hospitalizations would be between nine and ten times the number of available hospital beds in the country around June of this year (~9.3 million needed vs. ~1 million available).
Measures are being taken, so the hospitalization figure above is likely to be significantly lower. But there is no way the rate will be able to decrease by the 90% or so that's needed with people scoffing at and ignoring the warnings and recommendations of the science community.
This is and will continue to be hard on Georgetown (also on South Carolina, also on the United States, and probably in the majority of the world). While there is no need to panic, as a community of individuals we must all understand the responsibility we have to each other in doing everything we can to stop the spread of this disease.
I (Taylor Silver) will be available for phone calls which are currently routed through an answering service (in which all of the employees are currently working from home - and so should you if at all possible). Keep in mind that I'll likely have my two year old with me, so I apologize in advance for the background noise. Be smart and stay healthy!
