Evans Moore Law has reached a settlement in a wrongful death case involving a young man who died at a detention center.

When a presumed-innocent person is housed in a detention center, they have no ability to access care on their own. They depend entirely on the facility to protect their safety and well-being. When that responsibility isn’t met, families deserve answers, and those responsible must be held accountable.

What happened to 16-year-old Nicholas Brown should never have happened.

Nicholas was in the care of Midlands Center when he died after being placed in a full-body restraint in a room without working air conditioning.

Gary “Bubba” Blair died while in custody at the Chesterfield County Detention Center. His autopsy has now determined that he died from profound dehydration due to deprivation of water, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Evans Moore represents the Blair family as they seek accountability for what happened to their loved one. Boo Moore recently joined the family in meeting with SLED agents and the Chesterfield County coroner to discuss the autopsy findings and ongoing investigation.

Attorney James “Boo” Moore III sat down with Live 5 News for an investigation into a Charleston-area memory care facility that has faced years of lawsuits, failed inspections, and allegations of neglect.

Evans Moore represents a family whose loved one was placed there with advanced Alzheimer’s. Within a week, he had a spiral fracture and multiple broken ribs. He died six months later.

When the people who are hurt can’t speak for themselves, someone has to speak for them. That’s the work Evans Moore does - nursing home and memory care negligence and abuse cases throughout South Carolina.
