While a $275,000 settlement might seem modest for Avera & Smith, this outcome was anything but ordinary.

When a Gainesville woman was cited for being at fault after being hit by a large truck, most plaintiff attorneys would have declined to take the case. Our own Brad Willard, however, picked up on a few key details and decided to dig deeper.

Within 30 minutes of being contacted, Brad was at the scene documenting evidence firsthand and decided there was more to this case. As his investigation and the case progressed, Brad made repeated requests to the defense to preserve critical evidence, which subsequently went unanswered. As a result of these mistakes by the defense, and through his strategic litigation techniques, Brad uncovered issues that dramatically changed the course of the case.

In the end, Brad secured a $275,000 settlement for his client—a remarkable result under extraordinary circumstances.

The program is designed to help lawyers sharpen their courtroom skills. Over four days, participants attended lectures, watched demonstrations, and received personalized feedback from judges and experienced trial attorneys.
