A conversation with a bragging beneficiary notified authorities to investigate. Then, this week an officer at the Gainesville Police Department was arrested for improperly accessing, then sharing information about criminal investigations, and advising those being surveilled. Based on the allegations, he may not have been paid to risk his job and liberty. The Criminal Court will focus on a few transactions and recorded telephone calls.

Investigators say Gainesville PD detective Kelvin Mattair used his position to tip off drug dealers and compromise other investigations. Federal investigators say Mattair was in contact with and helping with drug deals, and detectives say he risked the safety of law enforcement officers. 🔽
